How about an IRC channel?

Post by wtg62 »

Hello all!
TestTubeGames now has an IRC channel! Chat as you please!
Do try to stay pertinent to TestTubeGames related topics, but chat about what you want. (Not sure what Andy will allow, that's up to him.)

Just remember the main rule, usage of the number e is not allowed.
Failure to comply will result in warn/kick/ban for mathing in public. (Not really :P)

Information:
 • Server: irc.esper.net
 • Channel: #testtubegames
 • Ops: Andy (Who else? :P)
 • People to chat with: Andy... the rest of the gang... and keep in mind, I'm (almost) always there!
Links to chat:
 • Direct link: irc://irc.esper.net/testtubegames (Click here only if your web browser has a client installed!)
 • To chat via Mibbit, click here. (No installation of anything necessary! Just put your nickname in!)
 • To chat with Esper's client, click here. (You need to put your nick, specify if you wish to use services, and of course, the channel name!)
Installable clients:
Original suggestion post: (Read this, and replies at your own risk.)
SPOILER
SPOILER_SHOW
Not sure if any of you here are IRC fans or not, but does anybody think it might be a good idea to see about setting up a channel called #testtubegames on esper.net?

That way we can chat with each other (and most of all, Andy) without having to wait out the natural delay of communication forums will provide.

If anybody (and again, most of all, Andy) thinks this is a good idea, then we can see about getting it set up.

Reason: It's a pun (forum). :P

Sorry, I just couldn't resist.

Anyways, reasons for this would obviously be a chance at informal chat. We could also have more personal and relaxed discussions. I don't know about you, but I stress over how I say things to make them come across the correct way. In fact, I even changed that last sentence (this one, too) to make it sound as most goodly as it canned (I did that on purpose, I don't know why). Because messages on an IRC would be much less 'permanent', there would be less 'stress'/social pressure involved, which could be a little refreshing. It might be awkward at first, though. Even so, I'm sure it would be a good idea.

Interesting idea, wtg. I mean, really, the limiting factor in all this is the forum speed. No backlog of suggestions/bug reports. Nope. None. :)

If people want to do it, I'd be amenable to trying it out.

Alright. I'm assuming you know about IRC then.
Otherwise, I'm more than happy to help you set up a channel.
They're rather easy to set up and remove. (Plus it'd be optional to use... people who like IRC can use it, people who don't can stay off it if they want)

Actually, I just Googled it. I was a little afraid I might come off as more knowledgable than I actually was. I saw [inter-something] relay? chat, so I assumed within the context it was some chatting 'platform'. I really don't get the Darth Vader thing though.

Oh, and this whole topic is ironic. Just saying.

Heh, I get the ironic part. Although that ironic part will only last so long.

As for the Darth Vader thing, I was referring to how you bumped your post count to 405 from 404 :P *Has a not so good sense of humor*

Internet Relay Chat, is what it's called. Nobody calls it that, they just say IRC.
