Series of Levels

Post by exfret »

Here are a series of levels telling the story of how Velocity Raptor found the See-all Seal (unofficial/not made by the creator of Velocity Raptor). I posted as a new thread so as to not spam the level creation megathread, because this is a lot of code and story, so it is better off as its own thread. I would love any comments and/or suggestions to make my levels better!

See-all Seal Story:

Velocity Raptor is trying to find the See-all seal, who claims to be able to know where Prof. T-Rex is hiding (this is before Velocity Raptor's encounter with him). The only problem: The seal's lair is even more treacherous than Prof. T-Rex's, and that's only if you're able to get through the cave.

Part 1: The Cave

Post by exfret »

As the cave gets closer to velocity raptor, she speeds up -or maybe it is the cave that accelerates- eager to find and defeat Prof. Rex. The front part doesn't seem too bad. Maybe this is going to be easy.

The journey has started. Before velocity raptor lies the entrance to the deep cave that leads to the See-all seal's lair. It doesn't seem to be too treacherous…

Part 2: The Map

Post by exfret »

Hmm… I guess I'll know how far it is now. These aren't really real obstacles, they're maps! Ha! Even the See-all seal needs maps to know how to get around its lair. But then, how would it be able to find Prof. Rex if it can't even find its way around its lair?

This is an interesting level… In fact, it's not even a level… It's a map! You see, at the start is the entrance to the cave, then after that, there's tidal waters. That's obviously an anvil shape in that ice… It must be anvil glacier, and look, a doppler key for Doppler's fort. And that bay must be Geyser Bay with that big geyser in the middle, and it connects to the Infrared Springs that I was just in. But what's that in the lower right-hand corner next to infrared Springs? It's the map! Even the map is on the map!!!

Code: Select all

[Looking Back, [o,o,w,o,o,o,o,o,o,o,o,o,o,o,o;w,o,t-4.6000000000000005-3.6,o,o,o,o,o,o,o,o,o,o,o,o;w,t-4.6000000000000005-3.6,s,s,s,o,o,o,o,o,o,o,o,o,o;o,o,o,s,o,o,o,o,o,o,f-15-25,f-15-25,f-15-25,o,o;o,o,s,s,s,k-408,o,o,o,o,f-15-25,w,f-15-25,o,o;o,o,o,x,b1-2.2-2,g,w,w,w,o,f-15-25,w,f-15-25,o,o;o,o,o,o,o,o,w,f-15-25,w,w,f-15-25,w,f-15-25,t-4.6000000000000005-3.6,o;o,o,o,o,o,o,w,w,w,o,o,o,s,k-408,f-15-25;o,o,o,o,o,o,o,o,o,o,o,o,o,o,o;;]]
Hmmm… Seems to be another map… maybe that's a volcano in the center. No wonder there's so much geothermal activity! It appears that someone could go around through, or over it. Through seems to be the fastest route, (and time is running out) but it also might be the most dangerous…

Re: Series of Levels

Post by A Random Player »

I've currently got up to Geyser Bay, and the levels are great so far! The only problem right now is the geyser has different periods for the trapdoor blocks, so the path sometimes (depending on the time) moves in the opposite direction we need to go. Did you mean to change the offset instead? Or is there a certain time I need to be there?

Geyser Bay

Post by exfret »

Well, geyser bay is a little hard. I've gotten past it though. I haven't seen it doing this too much, so I hope it isn't too much of a problem. It does require a little luck and timing. Has this been happening for a while, or did you just point this out after trying it a few times? It's just that if you haven't gotten it in a while, then it must be more of a problem than if you haven't gotten it after trying it for a few times. Thanks for pointing it out. Sometimes I make my levels too hard. I hope You're liking my levels!

Well, I haven't played that many times, so it might just be I'm unlucky right now. I'm currently playing Melt the ice right now, though.

Wow, wow, wow! I'm currently at the Infrared Springs (just beat Geyser Bay -- tough but do-able, for me at least). Very impressive. I love the names (uh-mazing!), and the creativity in the level design.

I'm trying not to read ahead in the story, but I'm excited to see what happens with the See-all Seal...

Part 3: Volcanic Choices

Post by exfret »

The next part is finally out! See how well you can do to get to see the the See-all Seal! What may be on the other side of the Volcano? Only the See-all Seal knows...

So which way should you go? Under, through, or over? Over will be mountainous, but at least it can be seen from here. Through will be fastest (least number of levels), but that would be dangerous to go through (much more frustrating). Under has the least guarantees, but it may lead to the See-all Seal's lair, and it could even be pretty fast through. Wait… Wasn't this a cavern a second ago? The cave has been passed!!!

Section a: Under the Volcano
Play these levels if you choose to go under the volcano. Remember, you can always go back and try other routes, but time is of the essence!!!

This seems to be the entrance to another cave. Ugh. Another cave?

Yes! It's the top of the volcano! Or just a geyser. But look! It's melting the snow! Maybe Velocity Raptor could melt the snow too. You know, just for fun. (There are 32 snow blocks, see how many you can melt! Fire blocks that turn to snow blocks count, too, and there are an extra ten of those!!)

Good thing Velocity Raptor got out of the avalanche before it got here… Oh no, the exit is covered by the snow from the avalanche. Wait, why is it hot here? Look, the water is boiling! Re: Series of Levels

Post by testtubegames »

Nice! Looking forward to giving these a try.

(On a side note, looks like I need to work on the rounding in the level code. Seems there's still a few floating point errors getting through the filter... as in 4.000000000002.)
