GSim 0.28.01
That's right, another big update here for the downloadable version! Get it with the auto-updater, or grab it from the link to the humble store.
GSim Version 0.28.01
New:
-‘Fixed’ Stars can now move!
-You can change the length of the prediction line
-Change the grid size
-Option where planets snap to grid
-‘Medium’ orbit lines added, you can set the length
-You can set the brightness of orbits to be based on velocity/forces
-‘Dot’ mode for extremely fast orbit path drawing
-Force arrows and velocity arrows
-If ‘force arrows’ is on, an arrow will appear at your mouse, before placing objects, so you aren’t guessing what the force will be.
-Change the densities of objects
-Text for Planet Age, Distance traveled, Potential Energy and Total Energy actually works now
-Added more functions: sec, csc, cot, asin, acos, …, abs, log, ln, sqrt, cbrt, pi, tau, e
-Some bug fixes, of course.
Still to add:
-Still meaning to fix the 'crashes-with-too-many-orbit-lines' bug
-Color picker with more choices
-Merging options
-...and all the other stuff in the suggestions list.

Ooh, force arrows. This ought to be fun.
Convincing people that 0.9999... = 1 since 2012

Bleh, autoupdater still didn't work. Downloading manually.
$1 = 100¢ = (10¢)^2 = ($0.10)^2 = $0.01 = 1¢ [1]
Always check your units or you will have no money!

Auto-updater worked, in detecting a new version.
Although I restarted the game and applied the update, it would crash on start up.
I'll provide one of the generated folders it gives me if necessary.
I did get the version off of Humble Bundle... so... suggestion and comment time:

- With all the new sliders and whatnot, maybe add a textbox with the value in it next to the slider so it can be edited via typing (if accuracy is needed).
- A reset settings button would be nice.
- Ghost planet that appears on your cursor before clicking is inconsistent with what is actually created. Maybe it has to do with the new density feature that was added? (Seems to affect fixed stars only)
- Don't erase orbit lines (if finite) when game is paused
- Dotted orbit mode seems to make the orbits really dark regardless of brightness setting...
- Even if grid-lines for smaller units are visible, the snapping feature snaps to the larger units
- Should add a reset time button (i.e. make t = 0) in the time menu
- When tracking or doing ptolemy, regardless of the flingable setting, the fixed star still moves
- Saves should have planet names stored
- Perhaps an option to show planet names as labels on objects?
- Don't snap to grid if grid is off
- Flingable fixed-stars only allow me to create yellow mass=1000 planets
- Time-scale shouldn't affect how much is predicted

Darn you, auto-updater!
And wtg -- thanks for your list of suggestions -- I went through and fixed most of them already, so expect that in the next update. Two things I'll note: the dotted lines should be getting brighter and dimmer, too. Try with a slow object (is speed is selected) or just a lone asteroid (if force is selected). And non-flingable stars will appear to move in tracking modes... but they did that before, too. Their flingable-or-not nature just has to do with whether you can give them an initial non-zero velocity.

Er, I meant the fixed star still has a velocity relative to the planet I am tracking, when it shouldn't have velocity at all. My bad.

Ah, I see it now. When you're in tracking mode on something else, and add the 'fixed' star, it can have some velocity. A bug indeed!wtg62 wrote:Er, I meant the fixed star still has a velocity relative to the planet I am tracking, when it shouldn't have velocity at all. My bad.

Auto-updater failed to work for me as well. The game crashed upon loading. I took a quick look at the generated files, and it seems that the game was complaining about access violations and corrupted files. But I downloaded it manually, so all's good.

Hmm... so it didn't seem to work for anyone.NealCruco wrote:Auto-updater failed to work for me as well. The game crashed upon loading. In other news, I'm working on Dust which is a whole lotta fun.
Can't wait to get the dusty-version finished and posted. Gives the simulator a whole new feel when you can add tons of tiny stuff at a whim.

Re: GSim 0.28.01
I'm staring in awe now... the dust will be a beautiful feature.
Will we be able to give the dust custom colors? How will it work with saves?
I remember how I mentioned a 'shatter' collision mod, too. Perhaps dust and *small* planets with mass could be spawned then?
Plus the stars illuminate now? Sweet! (I just hope the saves now flag planets as stars
